Team Wild makes their mark on the Winter Series

Team Wild athletes took 1st in the mens and 1st in the womens race yesterday at the Suncoast Winter Tri Series event held on the Durban Beachfront. The entire team was in action as all the athletes placed in the top 5. Exposure was at a premium.

GORE CONTINUES WINNING STREAK

Glen Gore (Team Wild) continued his winning ways by claiming the Suncoast Olympic Distance Triathlon title in overcast conditions on the Durban beachfront yesterday. This is the 3rd year on the trot that Gore has won this particular race in the winter series and is his 4th win in a row.

Gore took out the lead in the swim from the start with Lawrence van Lingen (Mr Price) and his team mate, Carl Storm (Team Wild) in hot pursuit. They managed to pull a small lead on the chasing bunch as they exited the swim and headed for their bikes. It was first Gore onto the bike with Van Lingen close behind. He however crashed 500m into the ride after taking evasive action to miss an on-coming cyclist and ended up loosing some time before he regained composure. Gore lead the bike for the first 24km before the strong cycling, Dean Moore, Travis Campbell and Storm reeled him in. Not to be out done, Gore simply fell into the pack as the quartet headed for the start of the fast flat 10km run along the beachfront area. It was Campbell who took up the initial challenge with Gore close behind and Storm in 3rd. Gore managed to use his strong running ability to take the lead and was never challenged as he romped to the win in 1h 48 minutes. A strong finishing Johnny De Dominicus managed to overhaul the trio of early leaders to claim 2nd position about 2 minutes back with Campbell taking a well deserved 3rd place. Carl Storm was 4th.

The ladies race was equally exciting with Carla Germishuys (Team Wild) and Jane Brewer (Bolle) involved in a titanic struggle for the women’s title. It was Germishuys who lead on the bike but Brewer managed to use her strong cycling ability to catch Carla as both started the final 10km run together. It was however Germishuys who showed better speed on the run to win in convincing style with Brewer finishing 2nd and Riana De Lange (Nestle) claiming bronze. Sam Spong (Team Wild) was a close 4th with Rowena Curr (Team Wild) filling out the top 5.
